Transforming School Climate - Roosevelt High Restorative Practice Model

In this interactive learning circle, students and teachers from Theodore Roosevelt High School, located in the neighborhood of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles, will provide their first-hand experience of the power of Restorative Justice to transform school climate (read more here). Shaped by youth grassroots organizing and teacher and school leadership, this movement has been challenging the school-to-prison pipeline that pushes students out of school, and has been calling for an end to punitive discipline practices that disproportionately affect black and brown youth. Come hear from youth organizers, teachers, and restorative justice practitioners about this exciting model that combines restorative practice, organizing, positive discipline intervention supports and ethnic studies to create a more compassionate and trauma-informed school culture.
